Hunting
Many hunting seasons in Minnesota open in September, including early Canada goose on the 2nd, ruffed grouse on the 16th, and ducks on the 30th. Archery season opens for whitetail on September 16th as well, while riffle season opens November 4th. Bear season is open September 1st through October 16th. Sportsman’s Lodge offers a variety of professional guides who work tirelessly to help you find your quarry.
Norris Camp
Historic Norris Camp is a preserved civilian conservation corps camp from the 1930’s. Now the headquarters of the Red Lake Wildlife Management Area, tours are available from the DNR staff at the camp year round. Norris Camp was established under one of president Roosevelt’s “New Deal” programs in 1935 and employed close to 200 men and officers performing a variety of tasks.
Wilderness Drive
The second largest state forest in Minnesota, Beltrami Island State Forest offers wilderness lovers nearly 670,000 acres of marshes, bogs, and sand ridges to explore. Various routes have been established to allow visitors to comfortably enjoy the vast wilderness, including the Homesteaders’ Drive and the Fall Color Drive.
